Alonzo Jackson “A.J.” Cole, Jr., passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025, at Brookridge Skilled Nursing Center, with his beloved family by his side.
Mr. Cole was born in Stokes County, NC, on October 5, 1946, to the late Alonzo Jackson Cole, Sr., and Orice Shepherd Cole. He was the owner of Cole’s Carpet Service and a member of First Baptist Church of King, where he served in multiple roles, including Deacon and Sunday School Teacher, as well as serving on the Board of Directors. He was a member and Past President of the Kings Lions Club. AJ played semi-pro baseball for the Winston-Salem Pond Giants and was a well-respected coach for SCYBL and King Little League. He also loved working on and collecting classic cars.
A.J. was a devoted and loving family man; he adored his wife and loved his children. He was often seen attending their ball games or watching them play sports, and he cherished spending as much time as possible with them. He was an incredible Papa to his grandchildren, whom he adored and was very proud of.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Lawson and Dot Patterson, and a brother, Bunny Cole.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jane Cole; his son, Jay Cole and wife Katie (Miracle); his daughter, Amy Cole Fuller and husband Jody; his grandchildren: Jackson Cole and wife Anna (Hogewood), Kaci Pearson and husband Kelby, A.J. Cole, and Lia Jane Fuller; his sister, Tootsie Bennett and husband Bobby; brother-in-law Jimmy Patterson and wife Joyce; sister-in-law Ann Vaughn; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Brookridge Skilled Nursing, Dr. and Mrs. Davey Stallings, and the direct care staff of Priddy Manor.
The family will receive friends and loved ones from 1:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. on Friday, August 22, at First Baptist Church of King, 122 Kirby Rd., King, NC 27021. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m., with Rev. Tim Elliott officiating. Interment will follow at the First Baptist Church of King Cemetery.
