Alton Thomas Roberts

King- Alton Thomas Roberts, 97, of King, NC passed away peacefully on July 1, 2023, at his home with his loved ones by his side.

Mr. Roberts was born on January 9, 1926, in Stokes County, NC to the late Nathan and Myrtha (Cox) Roberts.  He was the husband of the late Elsie Mae (Marshall) Roberts.  Alton was a dedicated member of Boyles Chapel Primitive Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for many years.  He was retired from Taylor Brothers Tobacco Company.

In addition to his parents and wife, his siblings, Conrad Raymond Roberts, Romie Richard Roberts, Otis Edward Roberts, Inez Myrtha (Roberts) Bennett, Nathan Maryland Roberts, Jack Leo Roberts, and Bobby Belmont Roberts, as well as his granddaughter-in-heart- Casey James (Sprinkle) preceded Mr. Roberts in death.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter in heart, Jan (Roberts) Hodges, his brother, Winfred “Wimp” Roberts (Sarah), his sister-in-law, Mora “Mo” Roberts, many cherished nieces and nephews, his grandchildren in heart, April James (Bryant), Andrea Welborn (Larry Hall), Logan Sprinkle, Delilah Hooker, and a very special niece- Linda Hartgrove Mabe (Anthony), and best fur friend Deacon Hodges.

The Roberts family would like to extend our gratitude to his special caregivers, Robin Epperson, Lisa Pyrtle Smith, Lu Ann Cox, and Melanie Rutledge for all of the loving care given to Alton and his family.  We would also like to thank The Trellis Supportive Care and special nurse Jay Waldroup.

The family will receive friends and loved ones from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM, on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Slate Funeral Home in King, NC.  Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM with Elder Jeff Whitaker and Elder Rodney Marshall officiating.  Interment will immediately follow at Boyles Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, 4632 NC Hwy 66 Hwy. S. King, NC 27021.
