Ashford Gilchrist Persinger, Jr.

King - Ashford Gilchrist Persinger, Jr. of King, NC passed away Friday, May 7, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. 

Mr. Persinger was born on December 2, 1936, in West Virginia to the late Ashford G. and Mary Gray Burdette Persinger.  He proudly served in the US Army and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in King.  Mr. Persinger loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed every visit with them. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan Carol Morgan Persinger; his sisters: Phyllis Alderman, Zelma Whited, Shelby Craft, and Doris Loomis; and a great granddaughter, Emily Dawn Cook.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Marthena Morgan Persinger; daughters: Carol Morgan (Warren), and Jill Morgan (James); sons: Curtis Persinger (Drema), Jed Holliday (Amie), and Chris Persinger (Heather); a brother, Robert A. Persinger (Hazel); a sister, Joyce Bolt (Larry); fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.

Mr. Persinger will lie in state on Monday, May 10, 2021 from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, May 10, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin Broyhill and Pastor Scott Vernon officiating.  Interment will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 2:00 PM at McLean Cemetery in Ronceverte W. V.  The grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Memorial donations may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund: 536 S. Main St. King, NC 27021.
