Barbara (Southern) Gravitt

Barbara Southern Gravitt, 90, of King, NC, passed away at her home on March 13, 2026, following a courageous four-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

The daughter of the late Johnny and Rhumell Southern, Barbara was a lifelong resident of King, NC, and a devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Her commitment to her faith and community was evident through her decades of service as the church secretary, a role she held until her retirement in 2020 at the age of 84.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Bobby Gravitt.

She is survived by her children: Lisa Gardner (Max), Steve Gravitt (Callie), and Patti Gravitt; grandchildren Brandon Gravitt, Abbie Gardner, and Gracie Gardner; bonus grandchildren Amanda Parks and Ashleigh Parks; and five bonus great-grandchildren: Trey, Tyson, Kaleigh, Anakin, and Kenzleigh.  

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 725 W. Dalton Road, King, NC 27021.  Family visitation will begin at 12:00 noon, with the service following at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or Trellis Supportive Care.
