Barbara Robertson Obituary

Barbara Thomas Robertson, a cherished pillar of her community and beacon of family devotion, passed away peacefully in her King, NC home on March 24, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on April 5, 1936, in Stokes County, NC, Barbara was the beloved daughter of the late William Ray Thomas and Maeola Pack Thomas. Her warmth, intelligence, and generosity left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew her.

Barbara's life was a beautiful tapestry of love, hard work, and community involvement. She was happily married for 70 years to her devoted husband, Robert "Buster" Robertson, who, alongside her sons Vic and Von Robertson (Lisa), formed the core of her world. Her role as a loving mother was further blessed with the joy of her granddaughter, Lizzy Robertson, and a host of extended family members who all benefited from her nurturing spirit.

As the retired owner and operator of Robertson's Variety Store in King, Barbara was a respected businesswoman who served her customers with a personal touch that made everyone feel like family. Her entrepreneurial spirit was matched by her civic engagement. As a co-founder of the Stokes County Republican Ladies Club, she was deeply committed to her community and played an active role in the Republican Party, supporting and influencing local politics with grace and a keen intellect.

Barbara's presence was felt not only in the public arena but also in the quiet, everyday moments at home. A lifelong resident of King, she was renowned for her country cooking and hospitality, welcoming friends and neighbors into her home with open arms and a warm meal. Her support for her family was unwavering, especially in backing Buster's business and political endeavors. She stood as a testament to the power of partnership and mutual respect in marriage.

Those who were fortunate enough to know Barbara will remember her as a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law. Her ability to listen, offer wise counsel, and maintain a sense of humor endeared her to many. Barbara's life was a reflection of the values she held dear—love, family, and service to others.

As the matriarch of her family, Barbara's legacy of love and generosity will continue to live on through her sons, granddaughter, and the many lives she touched. Her intelligence and kindness shaped the lives of her family, inspiring them to pursue their passions with the same fervor and commitment that she demonstrated in every aspect of her life.

Barbara will be profoundly missed, but her memory will be cherished forever in the hearts of her loved ones and the community she so dearly loved.
