Barney Lee Newsome, 76, of King, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 9, 2026, in King. Born in Surry County, he was the son of the late Frank and Ella Lee Owens Newsome. He was the owner and operator of Newsome Pest Control and previously worked for Orkin Pest Control.
Mr. Newsome was known for his kindhearted nature, sense of humor, and his ability to bring joy to those around him. In his earlier years, he dedicated time to coaching SCYBL boys’ basketball, Pop Warner football, and Little League softball. He especially enjoyed his 1968 Firebird, cheering on the Miami Dolphins and Duke basketball, carp fishing, golfing, beach trips, shagging to beach music, listening to The Eagles, and spending time with friends.
He was a member of First Christian Church of King.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sara Pendry Newsome; daughter, Lovenia Newsome; granddaughter, Bailee Newsome (Elan Muniz); grandson, Eli Tate; Eli’s father, Darron Tate; brother, Barry Newsome (Tammy Newsome); and his close friends, as well as extended family Ronnie and Lisa Pendry, Danny Pendry, Cynthia and Brady Hopkins, and Richard and Rebecca Pendry. He was preceded in death by his son, Bryan Newsome, and daughter-in-law, Stephanie Newsome Tate.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 12, 2026, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at First Christian Church in King. A funeral service officiated by Pastor Glenn Van Meter and Youth Pastor Max Mason will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary, with interment in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the youth group at First Christian Church of King, 625 Meadowbrook Dr., King, NC 27021.
