Berniece Spainhour peacefully entered Heaven on May 3, 2022. She was born on January 5, 1933, in Ashe County, NC. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bessie Campbell; a husband, Milton David Linville; and most recent husband, W.E. Spainhour; and also, two precious daughters, Joyce Ray Boyles (Aaron) and Carolyn Linville Carter. She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Ray Black (Tommy) and Vicky Linville Slate (Terry), and two stepchildren, Sandy Cox (Danny) and Greg Spainhour. She was most lovingly known as Nannie to her grandchildren Robbie Bledsoe, April Kilby, Jonathan Boyles, Candice Slate Covington, Dalton Carter & Jessica Allen and her 13 great grandchildren.
Nannie had a green thumb and could root a rock – she loved gardening, growing flowers, and most particularly her beautiful roses. Above everything else, she lived for NASCAR racing season! There were no visits or phone calls allowed during her race watching time. Nannie also loved her puppy dog, Scooter, who was her constant companion.
Nannie’s career was in retail working at Crown Drug & Eckerd for many years until her retirement – she always had a sweet smile for all her customers and fostered many friendships over the years.
The family would like to extend a loving and heartfelt thank you to a special friend, Sharon Tucker, and her caregiver Jessica Walker along with Mountain Valley Hospice for the love and care they gave during her declining health.
The family will receive friends and loved ones from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday, May 9, 2022, at Slate Funeral Home in King, NC. The family respectfully request that all visitors wear a mask for the health and safety of the family members.
A private graveside service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
