Betty Lou (Shelar) Mabe

Betty Lou Shelar Mabe, 79 of King, NC passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023, at Universal Health Care of King.

Ms. Mabe was born in Stokes County, NC on October 26, 1944, to the late Randall and Irene Wilson Shelar. She was retired from Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center, where she served as a medical secretary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Barry Ray Mabe.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Lisa Renea Mabe Hooker (Tommy), her sisters: Ann Lowe (Butch), and Gail McMahan; her brother, Tommy Shelar (Marla), her grandchildren: Randy Mabe, Amanda Blakley (Brant), Ashley Pruitt (Billy), and Bryar Hooker (Destiny); along with nine great grandchildren; and her best friend of sixty-four years, Bobby Ray Mabe (JoAnn).

The family will receive friends and loved ones from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Monday, December 18, 2023, at Slate Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Slate Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Watts officiating. Interment will follow at Quaker Gap Baptist Church cemetery.
