Betty (Hill) Smith

Betty H. Smith, 89, of King, NC, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 7, 2026.

Ms. Smith was born in Stokes County, NC, on June 30, 1936, to the late Joseph and Husey Smith Hill. She was a cherished member of Palmyra Methodist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 5352 in Kernersville, NC. Betty was affectionately known by her family and friends as “Nanny.” She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Nanny was a warm, kind soul, full of life, always smiling, and radiating joy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Josie Hill and Hazel Smith, her brother, Bobby Hill, and her son-in-law, Tim Spainhour.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Robin S. Spainhour; her granddaughter, Chelsea Nicole Spainhour; her grandson, David Spainhour (Chelsea M); and her great-grandchildren, Addie and Airlie Spainhour, two sisters: Elizabeth Bowen (Curtis) and Sandra Parker (Tom), a brother, Billy Joe Hill, Sr. (Helen), along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and special friends.

The family would like to thank Trellis Supportive Care for the care and support they provided Betty.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
