King – Betty Jean Cox Westmoreland, 86, of King, NC passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Village Care of King.
Betty was born in Wilkes County, NC on January 17, 1937, to the late James Arthur Cox and Erna (Billings) Cox Snider. She was a member of King Mission Baptist Church. She retired from U.S. Air, where she served as a reservation supervisor.
Betty was very devoted to her family and was loved by many. She was also an avid shopper.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Jerry Cox, JoAnn Cox Burgin, James Arthur Cox, and Deborah Snider Russell.
Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband of sixty-nine years, Charles Eugene Westmoreland, a son, Mark Westmoreland (Wanda), her daughter, Whitney Hawkins (Marty), two grandchildren: Thomas Charles Hawkins (Zander), and Allie Rena Hawkins (Connor), a sister-in-law, Helen Cox, and a brother-in-law, Ted Westmoreland, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and loved ones on Saturday, August 5, 2023, from 11:00 AM until 12:00 Noon at Slate Funeral Home in King. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 PM, with Pastor Albert Angell and Pastor Tim Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the King Baptist Mission Church Cemetery.
