Cora Rebecca “Becky” Matlock was born on December 13, 1948, in Surry County, NC. Her parents were Theodore Boyd Wall and Robbie Theresa Nixon Wall. Becky is one of three sisters. Her sister, Betty Jean Wall Harmon, passed away in 1982. Becky is survived by her sister Barbara Ann Wall Benge who lives in Rural Hall, NC. Becky married Sylvester LeRoy Matlock in 1971, and they were married for 53 years. They moved to King, NC in 1975 just before the Christmas holiday. She has two sons, Brian Lee Matlock and Eric Shane Matlock. She has one grandson Kaegon Cyrus Matlock, the sone of Shane Matlock. There are many very close nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great niece and nephews who she treated like her children and grandchildren. Becky loved often and loved hard.
Becky loved to take care of others by cooking meals, buying gifts for birthdays, holiday and really any day. And she loved to celebrate others. It was rare that Becky ever missed a birthday of her close friends and family. Becky sang with her friends in the group Song Chasers. They played and sang at nursing homes, Alzheimer units and a few other venues in Stokes County. Mom made close friends with the wives of LeRoy’s Vietnam Veteran friends when they traveled to the yearly reunions. Becky and LeRoy lived part of their time at their beach home in North Myrtle Beach. It was there they also created a family away from home.
Becky dealt with many traumas in her life. She struggled to deal with them many times during her 76 years on this earth. When she was in high school, homeless and sleeping in her car, she was essentially adopted by two sisters and their family. That family became an extension of Becky’s own family. But despite her challenges and struggles, she always found a way to show unconditional love to others. When she had the means, she made sure family and friends had meals to eat, shelter over their heads, were celebrated for who they are and for the day they were born and told them often she loved them. She was, is, a true example of the love of Jesus and how we should treat others with love, compassion, support and no judgement. May the memory of her love for you and others continue to shine through you.
