Donald Blake Holmes, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, at the age of 74 at his home in King, NC. Born on September 4, 1950, in Statesville, NC, to the late Sig Holmes and Maddie Shoemaker Holmes, Donald lived a life marked by devotion to his family, his work, and his faith.
Donald, affectionately known as Don to his friends and loved ones, was a man whose presence brought comfort and joy to those around him. He shared a beautiful and loving marriage with his wife of 54 years, Patricia Welborn Holmes, who stood by his side as a beacon of support and love throughout their years together. Their union was blessed with two wonderful children, Tracey Holmes Driver, Mark Holmes and wife Brandy, who in turn filled Donald's life with the laughter and joy of grandchildren: Dylan Driver, Tera Holmes, Casey Driver, and Zane Holmes.
Professionally, Donald dedicated many years of service to Wesley's Business Forms before taking on the role of a carrier for the United States Postal Service, from which he retired. His work ethic was unparalleled, and his commitment to his job was a testament to his character. Donald's colleagues knew him as a man who could always be relied upon, a trait that extended into every aspect of his life.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Donald was an avid bowler and fisherman, finding solace and pleasure in these pastimes. He had a passion for the outdoors and cherished the moments he could spend by the water or at the bowling alley, often surrounded by friends and family. His love for his family was paramount, and he seized every opportunity to be in their company, creating memories that they will hold dear forever.
A man of deep faith, Donald was a devoted member of Pathway Chapel, where he found spiritual fulfillment and a community that shared his values. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and providing strength during life's trials.
Donald will be remembered as a faith-filled and loving individual, whose kindness touched the lives of many. His legacy is one of unwavering love, steadfast faith, and a life lived with purpose and joy. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories of his warm smile, gentle demeanor, and the love he so freely gave will continue to inspire and comfort all who knew him.
