On August 15, 2025, Dorothy (“Dot”) Arguelles, 97, went to live in her heavenly home with her Savior, Jesus. Born to Russell and Hester Ross Cobb in Amory, Mississippi, on August 20, 1927, Dot and her two brothers, Vic and Bill, were raised to be loyal to God, country, and family. Dot graduated from Amory High School on May 19, 1944, and continued her education at Judson College. Dot’s brothers joined the Air Force, and Dot went on to marry a Navy man, John R. Arguelles, who predeceased her. Dot’s two brothers have also gone to their home in heaven, as well as two nieces, Pattie and Barbara, and a nephew, Rusty.
Dot and Jack lived on several bases during their lives. After the Navy, Dot worked for the Virginia Beach Planning Office for several years before moving to Pinnacle, NC.
Dot was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 68 years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in King, NC. Dot loved her church family and was very grateful for all the love they showed her. Dot volunteered at King Outreach for many years, stepping down when she turned 96. Dot was an avid reader and loved to watch the birds that gathered at her feeders on her back deck. She also loved to make jelly and give it away to those who visited her.
Dot leaves behind two children, Jan Spencer (Johnny) from Walnut Cove and John R. Arguelles, Jr. from Wasola, MO. Also left behind are her four grandchildren, James “Woody” Jones, Keelan Jones (Adriana), Lisa (Matt) Weaver, and Iris Ayala. She also had five great-grandchildren, Lilly, Reece, Sofia, Avery, and Lucas. She cherished her family and also her neighbors, Michelle, Earl (“best man I’ve ever known”), and Janiece, who looked after her. She also leaves behind LuHou, whom she thought of as her “second son,” and two nephews, Ron (Diane) Cobb and Billy Cobb.
Dot was thankful for CenterWell and the services they provided during her last month at home. The family is thankful for the tender care she received at Walnut Cove Health Care and Rehab. And in her final days, Trellis Supportive Care was amazing!
Dot always wanted to have the last word. As you left her, she would say, “You behave yourself!”
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Sunday, August 24, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church in King, NC. In lieu of flowers, Dot would be pleased to know that memorials in her memory were made to her church, Trinity UMC in King, or King Outreach Ministry.
