Dorothy Elizabeth (Newsome) Smith

Dorothy Newsome Smith, 65, of King, NC, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston-Salem, NC surrounded by her beloved family.

Mrs. Smith was born on December 26, 1956, in Stokes County, NC to the late Grady Oscar and Frances Lane Newsome.  Dorothy loved children and was a teacher’s assistant with the Stokes County School System and Meadowbrook Academy.  Dorothy found great joy in being an active member of King Community Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters: Doris Ladd, and Ruth Moser; and her brothers: Billy Newsome and Charles Newsome.

Left to cherish her memory is her lovingly devoted husband, Michael R. Smith; her daughter, Ashley Hawkins, and husband Ivan; an adopted daughter, April Harris, and husband Jimmy; a sister, Nancy Edmonds, and husband Jimmy; three grandchildren: Raegan Stacey, Kaydence Hawkins, and Brody Hawkins; several nieces and nephews; special sisters-in-law: Nancy, Rhonda, and Sherry; and her special friend, Carolyn Smith.

The family will receive friends and loved ones from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at Slate Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at 11:00 AM in the Slate Funeral Home chapel, with Bro. David Maynard and Pastor Charlie Kahn officiating.  Interment will immediately follow at Volunteer Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
