Gary Lynn Preston

Mr. Gary Lynn Preston, 70, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024.

Mr. Preston was born on July 19, 1953, a native of King, North Carolina, and the son of the late Mack Lee Preston and the late Betty Jean Banks Preston. He was a 1971 graduate of South Stokes High School and a drummer in the marching band. Gary attended Mitchell College in Statesville, NC, and was a former employee of RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company in Winston-Salem, NC.

Survivors include his siblings Renwick Lee Preston (Carol) of Pfafftown, NC, Vickie Annette Preston Baker of Winston-Salem, NC, Joey Ray Preston (Laurie) of Anderson, SC, and Tracy Michelle Preston Wagner (Mike) of Lakeland, FL; nephews Drew Preston Standridge of Charlotte, NC, William Bennett Preston (Dainelle) of Rosemont, Minnesota, and John (Jack) Banks Preston of Anderson, SC; and great-niece Lyra Preston of Rosemont, Minnesota. 

Gary Preston was a loving brother and family member and was known as a kind, hardworking, and generous gentleman. Gary loved helping others, volunteering, and living life to the fullest, sprinkled with a healthy dose of humor. His hobbies included working outdoors with plants and landscaping. 

Slate Funeral Home will host a memorial graveside service for Mr. Preston on Saturday, May 25 at 1 p.m. at the King Memorial Park/First Baptist Church Cemetery at 413 E. King Street, King, NC.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Gary Preston’s name may be sent to King First Baptist Church Cemetery Fund at P.O. Box 481, King, NC 27021.
