George Ferrill Parrish

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of George Ferrill Parrish, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather who left us peacefully on September 21, 2024, at the age of 74. 

Born on December 4, 1949, in Randolph, NC, George developed a love for the open road at an early age. After graduating from NC State with a BS in Forestry, he spent his life driving across this great nation, traveling more than two million miles during his career with Roadway and Yellow. He cherished the freedom of the highway, the wonders of nature, and the breathtaking beauty of America’s national parks. 

George’s greatest love, however, was his family. His warm heart and kind soul touched everyone who knew him. He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Harriette “Dottie” Parrish, daughter Lindy Blanchard (Jamie), daughter-in-law Courtney Parrish, grandchildren Daniel “Alex” Dean Jr (Jennifer), Kaitlyn Mixon (Darien), Brandon Blanchard, Grayce Parrish and Jack Parrish, great-grandchildren Dayton & Kinsley Mixon, nephew Joseph Parrish III, nieces Fran Stuart and Meg Hanks-Mauser, and bonus son Daniel Dean, special cousins Ann and Lou Merritt, as well as several bonus grands and great-grands. 

He was preceded in death by his son Michael Devin Parrish, parents Joseph Fuller and Florence May Parrish, brother Joseph Fuller Parrish Jr., sister Bobbie Nero, niece Libby Bishop and nephew Kirk Hanks. 

A private service will be held at the family plot in Louisburg at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
