Iris Lea Bennett

Iris Lea Southern Bennett, 86, of Quaker Gap, NC passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at the home of her daughter Sharon Gordon.

Mrs. Bennett was born in Stokes County, NC on May 28, 1937, to the late James Woodrow and Berlina Hicks Southern. She was a member of Haw Pond Church of Christ. She was a homemaker that took great pride in caring for and loving her family. She married the love of her life, Edgar Lane Bennett on May 26, 1956, sadly he passed away this year, on April 11, 2023. They raised a beautiful family together.

In addition to her parents James and Berlina Southern, and her husband Edgar Lane Bennett, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Zachary Ryan Gordon; her sisters: Nancy Southern Bibey and Frances Southern Tuttle; and her brothers, Bobby J. Southern and James Richard Southern.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Sharon Bennett Gordon (Mike), Deborah Bennett (James Wiseman) and Tessie Bennett; her grandson, Matthew Gordon (Anna), her granddaughters: Brittany Chaney (Brian), Crystal Thorne and Emily Wiseman; her great grandchildren; Madelyn, Alivia, and Caroline Gordon, Troy and Jase Chaney, Ciara Wiseman, Amir Scipio and T. J. Thorne; her brothers; Larry Southern, Michael Southern (Kay), Jeff Southern and friend Mickie, a sister, Brenda Vogler (Joe); a brother-in-law, Reggie Tuttle; and a special sister-in-law, Bonnell Proctor; along with several beloved nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend a special “thank you” to Erica Hatcher for the last eighteen months of love and devotion to our parents; and to Patty Shelton for her service.

The family will receive friends and loved ones on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Haw Pond Church of Christ from 12:00 PM to 1:45 PM. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM, with Dr. Jack Darida officiating. Interment will follow, in the church cemetery.
