Jack Roger Westmoreland, 87, of King, NC passed away peacefully at his home on Monday September 4, 2023.
Born in Forsyth Co, he was the son of the late Thomas and Beulah Rierson Westmoreland. Mr. Westmoreland was the widower of the late Katie Hilton Westmoreland also preceding him in death were his daughter; Tanya LeMasters, and his brothers Joe, Nat, John, Roy, and Ray Westmoreland.
Mr. Westmoreland was a veteran of the United States Airforce, was retired from Hertz Equipment Rental as a branch manager and was a member of Jefferson Christian Church and the American Legion Post 290 in King. He was inducted into the Forsyth County Sports Hall of Fame in the 2014 class for seven-man football while at Rural Hall High School, also an avid golfer he played in the Crosby and Vantage pro-am tournaments. Mr. Westmoreland also coached the Shaw Airforce Base midget program for youth basketball and coached the King Dolphins Pop Warner football team in the 70’s. Mr. Westmoreland served as a reserve deputy with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department for 20 years retiring as a captain and was awarded the Reserve Deputy of the Year award in 1981.
Left to cherish his memories is his daughter Mitzi Vance and husband Gene, granddaughter; Katelyn LeMasters Redlin and husband Michael, also surviving are sisters-in-law; Martha Aldridge, Mary Ruth Hooper, and Barbara Westmoreland.
Mr. Westmoreland will lie in state at Jefferson Christian Church in Rural Hall on Sunday September 10, 2023, from 2:00 – 3:00pm. A funeral service will be held at 3:00pm with Minister Steve Cook officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with honors rendered by the American Legion Post 290.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Jefferson Christian Church.
