King – James Leo Baker of King passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023.
Leo was born October 24, 1935, in Stokes County to the late Norman E. Baker and Sadie Sizemore Baker. He was preceded in death by his brother, Max Baker (Frankie) and a sister. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia Binkley Baker; niece, Terri Gillespie (Michael), and family; nephew, Greg Baker (Ona), and family.
Leo retired from Piedmont/US Airways with 32 years of service. He was a member of the King Jaycees, King Lions Club, and helped coach Little League Baseball. He was assistant Scout Master for troop 402 in King and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow at Camp Raven Knob. He was also a member of AACA Old Salem Chapter Car Club for many years.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Rural Hall Memorial Park, Rural Hall, NC with his nephew Greg Baker officiating. The family will receive friends at Slate Funeral Home in King on Friday evening, August 18, 2023, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cancer Services, 3175 Maplewood Ave. Winston-Salem, NC 27103, or to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
