James Mays, born on April 29, 1947, and passing on June 18, 2026, lived a life marked by devotion, quiet strength, and a deep love for the people and places that shaped him.
He was the husband of Ruth Mays, his wife of fifty years, and together they built a marriage grounded in loyalty, companionship, and enduring care.
James was preceded in death by his parents, William Mays and Pearler Jackson Mays. He is survived by his sisters, Ozelle Key and Mozelle Wilkes, and his nephew, Isaac Boyles, along with many others who will cherish his memory.
He graduated from South Stokes High School, an accomplishment that reflected his determination and the importance he placed on education and hard work. Throughout his life, he was known as a man who appreciated simple pleasures and found joy in the outdoors. He loved to fish and hunt, and these pastimes gave him peace, purpose, and many treasured moments over the years. Whether spending time in the quiet of nature or enjoying the company of those he loved, James embraced life in a way that was both humble and full.
James also had a special affection for his dogs, Sheba and Icy, who were faithful companions and brought him comfort and happiness. His love for them was a reflection of his gentle nature and his appreciation for loyalty and companionship. Those who knew him understood that his heart was especially tender toward the animals and routines that made his days brighter.
