Johnny Ray Brewster, 73, of King, NC, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center, with his beloved family by his side.
Mr. Brewster was born on November 5, 1951, in Bluefield, West Virginia, to the late Earl Ray Jr. and Lorraine Wymer Brewster. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Vietnam War. For many years, he worked as a mechanic at Kmart, and after its closure, he spent 18 years with Weiser Security Service.
Active in his community, he also served as a Boy Scout leader. He loved life and enjoyed various activities, such as visiting Dollywood, riding roller coasters, and attending the many fall festivals in the area. Mr. Brewster was a devoted member of Friendly Chapel Church, and his favorite song was "Amazing Grace."
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 32 years, Linda Faith Cavanaugh Brewster; his stepson, Timmy Wayne Mabe; two foster daughters, Mary Sapp and Bethany Cockerham; a sister, Brenda Galyean; his grandchildren, Jason Plymale, Andrew Plymale, and Mark Plymale; three lifelong friends: Fred Adams, his friend since1st grade; Daniel Ford; and Harvey Hall; his nephew, Christopher Galyean, along with his four fur babies, his son, Robert Mason, adopted son, Ashton Brewster, additional grandchildren: James Mason and Mara Mason, and great-grandchildren: Eliara Marshall and Leo Mashburn.
The family will receive friends and loved ones from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Slate Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Michael Quesenberry officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Crestview Memorial Park.
