Karen Lu Loy, 73, of King, North Carolina, passed peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
Born in Loveland, Colorado, to the late Roy and Eva Rasmussen Kennedy, Karen lived life to the fullest with joy and laughter. She loved adventure and the arts, spending time painting, dancing, listening to music, walking in nature, and being with her family and friends. Karen’s meaningful contributions to her community include working as a preschool and elementary school teacher and later as an executive assistant at Wake Forest Baptist Medical School.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Loy of King, NC; daughters, Karri Loy of Englewood, CO; Kassidy Loy Mathews (Tim) of Asheville, NC; Karly Meacham (Jon) of King, NC; son, Jake Loy (Eme) of King, NC; and seven grandchildren, Finn and August Mathews; Genevieve, Quinlynn and Franklin Meacham; and Wyatt and Miles Loy. Brothers Bill Kennedy (Gayle) of Nipomo, California; Jeff Kennedy (Debbie) of Thorton, CO; Peter Kennedy of Sterling, CO; sisters Bonnie McMullen (Jack) of Aurora, CO; and Cherryl Greenman of Aurora, CO.
A memorial service to honor Karen will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2025, at Slate Funeral Home. Dr. Gus Thomas will officiate, and visitation will follow the service.
