Linda Griffin Bennett, 84 of King, NC, was born in Stanleytown, VA, on January 7, 1941, to Hattie Hudson Griffin and William Rufus Griffin. She left her earthly home on Friday, October 3, and was received into the loving arms of her heavenly father.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Dennis William Bennett, and a very special spiritual spouse, Bobby Hayes, sisters Betty Talley, Shirley Sonbert, and brother Wallace Griffin.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving family: daughters Robin Snyder (Harold) and Stacey Bennett, along with three grandchildren: Sommer Snyder, Spencer Snyder, and Korbin Bennett; sisters Carol Sue Nelson and Cleo Willard-Weems; and brothers Ken Griffin and Rev Don Griffin, along with several beloved nieces, nephews, and special friends.
She was a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother known affectionately as “Nanny” to many who knew and loved her.
She was very proud to have worked as a nurse at Baptist Hospital for several years after graduating from the Nursing School at Forsyth Technical Community College. She touched many lives in her time as a nurse and was especially fond of her time in intensive care, working with critically ill patients.
She volunteered for many years working at the election polls, which she loved immensely because this gave her the opportunity to meet new friends. She would say, “A stranger is just a friend I haven’t met yet”.
She was blessed to have developed relationships with two church families: Mount Olive Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member for many years, until she was drawn to First Baptist Church, Stanleyville, to attend with her family, and where she developed relationships with many special friends. As a Sunday School teacher and friend, she touched many who supported her and her family during her decline in health.
A private graveside service will be held at Mount Olive Cemetery on Wednesday, October 8. Flowers will be received at Slate Funeral Home in King, or a donation to the charity of choice.
