M. Helen Shore Obituary

Margariett Helen Helsabeck Shore
September 21, 1929 – April 18, 2025
Tobaccoville, NC
Margariett Helen Helsabeck Shore, 95, of Tobaccoville, peacefully and quietly passed away at home on Thursday, April 18, 2025.
Known to all simply as Helen, she was born in Forsyth County on September 21, 1929, to the late Henry Oscar Helsabeck and Minnie Albina Cook Helsabeck. A lifelong member of Antioch United Methodist Church, Helen’s family, faith and community were always at the heart of her life.
She graduated from Rural Hall High School in 1948 and began her career at Western Electric in Winston-Salem. On November 11, 1950, Helen married her high school sweetheart, Edwin D. Shore. Together, they built a life in Tobaccoville, settling on “Main Street,” where they lived for the rest of their adult lives.
Ed ran a lawnmower and television sales center alongside the family-owned grocery and gasoline business, SHORE'S STORE. The couple worked side-by-side until Helen was called home to care for their growing family. She fully embraced her role as a devoted wife and mother, affectionately refer to by her children, Boyce (1955), Myron (1957), and Laynette Shore (1960), as a “Full-Time Human Development Specialist”.
Helen was the last of nine children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters: Annie Helsabeck Kapp (H. Dee), Blanche Helsabeck Bowen (Worth W.), Virginia Helsabeck Alderman (Elbert H.), Ruby Helsabeck Edwards (John L.), John H. Helsabeck (Margie), Fred Helsabeck (a WWII casualty), Frank L. Helsabeck, and Oscar H. Helsabeck.
Helen and Ed shared nearly 69 years of marriage before Ed’s passing in September 2019. He always lovingly called her: “You Are My Sunshine.”
Helen’s legacy lives on through her children and their spouses: Boyce & Anne Shore, Myron & Tammy Shore, and Lynette Poff; her thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren:
• Jeremy & Jessica Shore (Josie and Silas; with Noah Edwin now in Heaven)
• Samuel & Jennylyn Shore (Keller, Keegan, and Haven)
