Marty Slate Obituary

SLATE

Marty Brad Slate, 49, of Lexington, formerly of King, passed away peacefully at his home on March 22, 2021.

Marty was a 1989 graduate of South Stokes High School in Walnut Cove. After graduation, he attended Johnson Bible College in Johnson City, TN.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Scott, stationed in Norfolk, VA. After returning home from the military in 1998, he began his driving career at Pepsi Bottling Ventures in Kernersville.

On October 10, 1998 he married his high school sweetheart, Kim Martin of King.

Marty was an avid golfer and a lover of all sports. He was a devoted University of Tennessee fan, and very passionate about football. He especially enjoyed attending the football games, tailgating, and touring the campus. In addition to sports he loved all types of music. Marty also loved to grill and show off his cooking skills while entertaining family and friends.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 22 years, Kimberly Martin Slate of the home, his loving parents, Sammy and Peggy Slate, his brother Robbie Slate and wife Kim, and one very special niece, whom he loved dearly, Ella Claire Slate, all of King.

He will be missed by his family, friends, and his beloved dogs, Bo and Millie.

Marty was strong right up to the very end. During his short battle with brain cancer he never complained and had a positive and courageous attitude.

The family sends a special thank you to Dr. Glenn Lesser and staff at Wake Forest Baptist Cancer Center for their kindness and diligent care.

All the love, support, and prayers for Marty and Kim, and his parents and family are very much appreciated.

In keeping with Marty's wishes, there will be no formal services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Davidson County, 1114 Piedmont Dr. Lexington, NC 27293 or the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).
