Mary Louise (Slate) Tedder

Mary Louise Slate Tedder, 96, of King, formerly of Winston Salem, NC, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, 2024, at Priddy Manor in King, NC.

Ms. Tedder was born on June 30, 1927, in Stokes County, NC, to the late Luther C. and Claudia Gravitt Slate. She was a member of Beck’s Baptist Church for many years and loved her Sunday School class. She worked at Hanes Hosiery and Brendles for several years. She loved to cook and bake, clean her house, and work with her flowers when she was able.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Rufus Sanford Tedder; brothers: Johnnie Slate, Clyde Slate, Royce Slate, and Billy Slate; her sister, Moneda Slate Robertson; and son-in-law, Paul Ray Craddock.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Nancy Tedder Craddock of Midlothian, VA, and Cindy Tedder Carlin (Jimmy) of King, NC; her grandchildren: Tonya Craddock Ott (Robert), Scott Craddock (Rhonda), and Drew Carlin; her great-grandchildren: Tiffany Ott Wake (Will), Erik Ott (Kendall), and Ryan Ott; her great-great-grandchildren: Briggston Ott, Preston Wake, and Lane Wake. Also, several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 12:00 pm at Beck’s Baptist Church, Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 11:00 am. A graveside service will immediately follow the Celebration of Life at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beck’s Baptist Church, 5505 Becks Church Rd. Winston Salem, NC 27106, or to Mountain Valley Hospice, P.O. Box 325 Dobson, NC 27017.
