Maude Beane Smith Obituary

King – Maude L. Nichols Beane Smith, 90, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2021 at Universal Health Care in King, NC, after a long illness of Alzheimer’s and Stroke.

She was born to Raymond Gilmer and Margaret Jane Wood Nichols in Dobson, NC on February 10, 1931.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Lucille Nichols; husband Raymond Odell Beane; and second husband Danny Leo Smith; son, Roger Dale Beane; daughter, Merle Jane Beane Finch (Bob); a three-month-old grandson and a newborn granddaughter.

She is survived by sons: Raymond Odell Beane, Jr. of King, NC, and Billy Wayne Beane (Carol) of Red Oak, TX; and daughters: Julia Nichols Spainhour (Tony) of King, NC, and Carolyn Sue Beane York (Robert), of Little River, SC.  She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Christie Beane Teal (Donnie), Billy W. Beane, JR. (Barbara), Samuel Ray Beane (Wendy), Ray Steven Lober (Rosemary), Renee Briceno, Gina Long (Dale), Rebecca Livengood (Spencer), Tony Gray Spainhour, Jr. (Hucie), Yon Christopher Spainhour (Jeanette), and DeAnna L. Spainhour; sixteen great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker.  She loved all those that helped take care of her health at Universal Health Care, she would tell them she loved them and that they were pretty, or “I like your blouse”, or “I like your hair.”  She was called Ms. Giggly because she was giggly most of the time.  Due to her Alzheimer’s, she was sweet, but at times would get mad at other residents. Her stroke along with Alzheimer’s kept her in a wheelchair or in her bed.  She even had COVID-19 and beat it.  Mrs. Smith was a very strong-willed person.

During the Covid Pandemic, our visits were done via phone and internet, she loved her kisses from the ones taking care of her, and any family that visited.  During the pandemic, her kisses were by internet and duo.

Thank you, Universal Health Care, for all you did for our mother and also helping make her passing so peaceful.  We are so thankful for that.  We also thank Trellis Supportive Care for their help.

Due to current restrictions services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to Universal Health Care, 115 White Rd. King, NC 27021 or Trellis Hospice and Supportive Care, 8110 S. Main St. Walnut Cove, NC 27050, or any Alzheimer’s Association.
