Mercedes (Ceara) Langan

KING – Mercedes Langan, 92, passed away peacefully, Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Priddy Manor in King, North Carolina.

Mercedes was born on June 16, 1933, in La Vega, Dominican Republic to Francisco Ceara and Mercedes Ceara.  She was a member of Community United Methodist Church in Jackson Heights, New York.  Mercedes worked as a licensed real estate broker in New York City, where she lived for over 60 years.  In addition to her parents, Mercedes was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Thomas J. Langan.  Survivors include her son, Thomas B. Langan (Jennifer), a step-grandson, Tyler Reeves; nieces Stacy Ezell (Rainer) and Nancy Casey (Paul); a nephew, Craig Oertel; a dear special friend, Christina Boles (Derrick); and many cherished cousins in the Dominican Republic.

Having spent the first third of her life under a repressive dictatorship, Mercedes immigrated to the United States in 1959.  A proud naturalized American citizen, her life embodied the American Dream.  Mercedes loved sunny days, good prose, jazz, and dry white wine – served very cold.  Her final years were spent near her son in North Carolina where Mercedes continued to make friends into her 90’s.   Her kindness and good cheer brought joy to all who had the pleasure to know her.

A memorial service will be held in New York.  Details will be shared in the coming days.
