Patti Lou (Chilton) Purgason

Patti Lou Chilton Purgason, of Bethania, NC passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Brighton Gardens. 

Patti was born July 13, 1930, and raised on a tobacco farm in Ararat, NC, to the late Howard and Evelyn Key Chilton.  She was a member of Pine Hill (Friends) Church. She was an avid lover, collector, and dealer of antiques.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Swanson R. Simmons, and her sister, Nancy Robertson.

Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband G. Wayne Purgason; her son, Johnny G. Simmons (Judy); her daughter, Joy Simmons Tuttle; a stepdaughter, Michelle Ferry, three grandchildren: Grant Simmons, Valerie Bruner (Scott), Shawn B. Inman (Courtney); six great grandchildren: Kayla Beth Hutson (Silas), Wes Bruner, Allie Bullington (Hoyt), and Mollie Bruner, Everly Joy Inman, and Amelia Rose Inman; a special first cousin, Judy Watts (Don); and her beloved Bethania Community Family.

The family will receive friends and loved ones from 1:00 pm until 1:45 pm on Monday, September 19, 2022, at Slate Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm, with Pastor Michael Thames officiating.  Interment will be held at 3:30 pm, at Pine Hill (Friends) Church cemetery in Ararat, NC.
