Ray Sanford Sands

King, NC - Ray Sanford Sands, 87, of King, NC passed away Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Universal Health Care of King, 

Ray was born in Surry County, NC, May 23, 1932 to Rufus Edgar and Thelma Lee Cox Sands.  He married Violet Noreen Stewart on June 29, 1954.  They had two sons, Sheldon Sherwood Sands, and James Thomas Sands.  He retired from Taylor Brothers Tobacco Co. in Winston-Salem in 1994.  He attended Mountain View Baptist Church.  He proudly served in the United States Army from 1954 until 1962. 

Ray is preceded by his parents: Rufus Edgar and Thelma Lee Cox Sands, his wife, Violet Noreen Stewart Sands, a sister, Lillie Mae Sands Bodenhamer, and brother, Bobby Gray Sands.

Left to cherish his memory is his sons: Sheldon Sherwood Sands and wife Mary, James Thomas Sands and husband Dirk Robertson, grandchildren: Timothy Paul Sherwood Sands and fiancé Jamie Noonan, and Emileigh Krystal Elizabeth Sands, great grandson, Logan Oliver Sands, special nephew, Craig Stewart, step granddaughters: Mary Jane Altizer and Felicia Jennings, step grandsons: Anthony Barker, William L. Altizer and wife Joyce, and Matthew S. Altizer

The family will receive friends and loved ones from 12:00n until 1:00 PM, Friday, August 30, 2019 at Slate Funeral Home, 132 E. Dalton Rd. King, NC 27021 with a memorial service following at 1:00 PM with Pastor Tommy Pillow officiating.  Inurnment will take place after the memorial service at Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery: 1042 Mountain View Church Rd. King, NC 27021.
