Rebecca Meadows Obituary

Rebecca Ann Hardin Meadows, age 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday April 24th at Forsyth Medical Center. Ann was married to the love of her life Gareath C. Meadows for 62 years and they made their home in Quaker Gap.

Ann was born July 23,1935, on her families farm in Greensboro appropriately named Happy Hollow Farm as Ann was always happy. She was the oldest of 7 children of whom she helped her mom and dad raise. Ann started riding Saddlebred horses at 5 years old. Ann attended and graduated from Summerfield High School and went on to attend Greensboro Women’s College graduating with a double major in Home Economics and Art.

After graduating, she was employed as the assistant home agent for Yadkin County. From there she accepted the position as the home agent for Stokes County. She then went to teach at Nancy Reynolds School before teaching at London Elementary and then to South Stokes High School where she finished her career as the Home Economics and Art teacher.

When Ann retired from the Stokes County School system she turned her focus on her family and the farm she and Gareath had built together. Ann enjoyed traveling with Gareath from the mountains to the sea and attending horse shows throughout the Southeast. She enjoyed her farm life, being involved with the Stokes County Historical Society, cooking, gardening, her animals especially her toy poodle Sugar and her border collie Jay.

She enjoyed painting and loved pottery. She had a whimsical personality that showed through the colorful clothing she wore. Ann had a beautiful heart and was a faithful servant to the Lord as she accepted Jesus Christ at the young age of 12. Although Ann and Gareath never had children of their own, she was a great example of a mother to so many. Ann had a way of making everyone feel welcome, loved and cared for.

Ann is survived by her husband Gareath C. Meadows. Ann was proceeded in death by her parents Hubert B. Hardin and Lula Rush Hardin of Greensboro, her brother Phillip Hardin of Greensboro, and her sister Jane Evans of Boone.

Ann is also survived by her brother Rush Hardin of Stokesdale, her sister Betty Crumpler of Los Angeles, her sisters Linda Morton and Sally Hardin of Clemmons and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
