Reta Jane (Jones) Slate

King, NC – Reta Jones Slate, of King, NC, passed away peacefully Friday, December 9, 2022, after a lengthy period of decline.

Reta was born April 16, 1940, in Stokes Co., NC to the late Troy and Mattie Jones. She was a long-time member of Capella Church of Christ and the Sauratown Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Reta was full of life, with a quick smile and sharp wit.  She was a wonderful cook and there were no strangers at her dinner table. Reta was an animal lover and had a variety of beloved pets.  She was a devoted mother and grandmother and had a generous heart for those in need. Reta enjoyed a good laugh – and these she generously shared with everyone around her.

In addition to her parents, Reta is preceded in death by a son, DeVerne Alden Slate.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Melanie Slate Moser and husband Ronnie, her daughter, Joy Slate Brown and husband Brian (Tic), five grandchildren: Morgan Adams and husband Ricky, Amber Hairford and husband Tanner, Sara Gammons and husband Chase, Troy Bottoms, Elijah Brown, and eight great-grandchildren. (Jack, Levi, Wyatt, Mara and Elizabeth Adams, Oakes Hairford, and Knox and Ivy Gammons.)

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Capella Church of Christ, 1187 Flat Shoals Road, King, NC, with Pastor Donald Davis officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 to 1:45 prior to the service.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to those at LifeBrite Community Hospital Nursing Home who loved and cared for Reta.
