SPAINHOUR - KING: Robert Dee Spainhour, September 13, 1921 - July 20, 2024.
Mr. Robert Dee Spainhour, 102, died Saturday, July 20, 2024. He was born September 13, 1921, in Stokes County to William Ernest Spainhour Sr. and
Glida Agusta Garner Spainhour. Robert was a member of King Baptist Mission Church in King.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Kate Culler, and their twins, son Robert Dee Jr. and daughter Marylin Kitty. The three lost their
life at childbirth. At this event Robert was serving in the United States Army. He was located in Australia in the Pacific Theater during WW II.
He was also preceded in death by his second wife, Willie Faye Wall Spainhour, daughter, Robin S. Fulk, son, Tim Spainhour, and five grandchildren.
Surviving are his four children, Michael Dee Spainhour (MD), William Jeffrey Spainhour (Jeff) wife Robin C, Elizabeth Faye Newsome (Beth), Benjamin Joel Spainhour (Joel) wife Michelle, and daughter-in-law Robin S. Spainhour (Tim). Nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Sister Francis S. Hill, brother Kenneth Spainhour, wife Dianna.
Upon release from the US Army, he worked various jobs, from welding for Western Electric in Erie, PA, to driving a truck for McLean Trucking in Winston-Salem, NC. In 1951, he settled into a life of moving dirt. He would retire from this profession many years later.
Visitation is Wednesday, July 24th, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, with the service beginning at 11:00 am at Slate Funeral Home .. Rev. Albert (Abby) Angell, Elder Donald Ballard, and Brother
Tim Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the King Mission Baptist Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the King Mission Baptist Church C/O Linwood Martin, 141 Glen Brook Lane King, NC 27021.
