King – Samuel Thomas “Tommy” George, 85, of King, NC., passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at The Pearl of Fort Mill.
Mr. George was born on January 1, 1936, in Stokes County, NC to the late Sam and Evelyn Collins George. He was a former teacher and coach with Stokes County Schools for thirty-five years. He was a member of Quaker Gap Baptist Church and was a US Army veteran. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Erlene Wood.
He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-two years, Mavis Harris George; his son, Dr. Barry George (Susan); grandchildren: Dr. Mathew George (Dr. Elizabeth George), William George (Emily), and Elizabeth George Russell (Luke), and two great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters: Glenda Biggs (Delano), Nellie Overby (Lester), and Rita Clarke (Jeff); and brothers: Melvin George (Nancy), Ira George (Georgie), Jerry George (Wanda), and Robert George (Shirley).
The family will receive friends and loved ones on Saturday, July 17, 2021, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Slate Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM in the Slate Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ricky Rogers officiating. Interment will take place at Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery 1020 Big Creek Rd. Francisco, NC, at 4:00 PM, following the service.
