Steven Monroe Patterson

Steven Monroe Patterson, 74, of King, NC, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 30, 2025, at W.G. (Bill) Heffner Salisbury Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Steve was born in Forsyth County, NC, on January 15, 1951, to the late Ralph Monroe and Loyce Margaret Moser Patterson. He proudly served in the US Navy for 20 years, from 1971 to 1991, serving three tours in Vietnam, earning the rank of Ret. Senior Chief Petty Officer following his military service, he retired from American Airlines and was the owner-operator of WC&J Patterson, INC. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 290. Steve was an avid NASCAR fan, loved working on cars and motorcycles, and was a car collector. He enjoyed taking care of his beloved dog, Chief Thunderbolt.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Artie and Hallie Moser and Hatten and Agnes Patterson, and his cousin David Boyles.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Waylon Patterson and wife Michelle, Cher Patterson, and Jesse Patterson; two grandchildren, Josie Patterson and Emma Cox; a sister, Tammy Hunter; two nephews, Jason Hunter and wife Amanda; and Travis Bowers; a niece, Jennifer Johnson; two great nieces, one great nephew; the mother of his children and his special friend, Sandra Patterson, and a dear friend, Cheryl Boyles.

The family will receive friends and loved ones from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2025, at Mount Olive Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Mount Olive Baptist Church with Pastor Eric Hardman officiating.

Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
