Teddy Leon Gilmore, known affectionately as Ted to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024, in East Bend, North Carolina. Born on June 29, 1932, Ted lived a rich and fulfilling life marked by dedication to his loved ones and his community.
Ted was predeceased by his beloved wife, Thelma Jean Gilmore, his parents, John and Dorothy Brit Gilmore, and his brothers, Richard, Garland, William, and Sidney Gilmore. He is survived by his devoted sons, Dirk Gilmore and his fiancée Ashley Adair Cress, and Bradley Gilmore; his cherished grandson, Deaton Gilmore and his wife Logan; as well as his special friends, Janice Dockery and Joyce Carottey, who were like family to him. Ted's legacy continues through them and a host of other relatives and friends who were touched by his generous spirit.
Before retiring, Ted had a successful career in insurance sales, where he was known for his integrity and personable nature. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to become the proprietor of a beloved country store in East Bend, which became a local gathering place under his care. Ted's warm personality and genuine interest in the lives of his customers made the store more than just a place of business; it was a cornerstone of the community.
Ted was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict and was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in King, where he served and worshipped for many years. His faith was a guiding force in his life, and he lived it out through his actions, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a word of encouragement.
Those who knew Ted will remember him for his quick wit, his love of storytelling, and his unwavering commitment to his family and friends. He had a knack for making everyone he met feel valued, and his presence brought joy and laughter to any room.
As we bid farewell to Ted, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a legacy that will continue to inspire. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Ted's journey on earth has ended, but his story will be recounted with fondness and admiration for generations to come.
