A life of service…..composed with love.
Verna Lea Setliff Allen, 95, was greeted in the arms of Jesus with her family and dear friends by her side on December 2, 2021.
Born on June 11, 1926, in Pinnacle, NC to Rochester Winfield Setliff and Sarah Jones Setliff, the youngest of 8 children, she valued her early family life immensely and would often tell fond stories of her childhood and life on the farm. After being married to Latha Carlton Allen, she gave birth to her son, L.C. Allen, in 1953. Upon retirement from Western Electric, she gave herself fully to the needs of others around her.
Mrs. Allen was a proud member of Quaker Gap Baptist Church, where she served as church custodian for 24 years along with teaching Sunday school, vacation bible school, and helping out anywhere else the need should arise. A firm believer, she loved the Lord with all her heart, her soul, and her mind; and demonstrated this love through her service to others. You could find her providing childcare or taking church members to doctor’s appointments, for those that couldn’t drive, in a moment’s notice. A great cook, her family enjoyed countless Sunday meals with the full spread. Mrs. Allen was a selfless giver, and one shouldn’t dare compliment her on something or it might be coming home with you! Even at the care facilities in her later life, she would try to share her food with others. Always ready to better the lives of others, she was a compassionate and beautiful soul who in her words “loved people.”
The family is thankful for the time spent with our Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma, the role model she was and the life lessons we learned along the way.
Left to cherish the countless memories are her son, L.C. Allen (Sarah), granddaughter Julie Allen (Nick and his son Gentry), grandson Jonathan Allen (Stacey), great grandchildren Ella-Grace, Lathan, Grayson, and Paisley Allen.
Services will be held at Quaker Gap Baptist Church on Monday, December 6, 2021, at 3:00 pm. Visitation prior to the service will be from 1:30-3:00 pm at Quaker Gap Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Memorials in her honor can be made to Quaker Gap Cemetery Fund, 2265 Flat Shoals Road, King, NC 27021.
