Virgil Lee Green

Lexington, NC – Virgil Lee Green, 66, of Lexington passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.

Virgil was born on February 21, 1957, in Caro, MI to the late Keith and Barbara Ruggles Green. He drove over-the-road truck for Mountain River Trucking, in Mt. Airy, NC until his death. In the past he worked for Kroger in Caro, MI, he was a route salesman for Voortman Cookies, Floral and Plants, and Waldensian Breads.

He enjoyed hobby farming: raising worms for their casting, rabbits, cattle, and honeybees. He so willingly shared his produce and honey with friends and those in need. Always a cheerful, happy-go-lucky guy with a huge heart for helping others, he would lend a hand wherever needed. He loved people, and he enjoyed sitting a spell chatting with them. 

That huge heart and smile of his will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, Keith and Barbara Green, Virgil was preceded in death by his grandparents: Lorn and Viola Green of Caro, MI, and Bruce and Irene Ruggles of Kingston, MI.

Left to cherish his memory are his four daughters, whom he loved tremendously and was SO PROUD of!!: Cindy Brown (Grant), of East Bend, NC; Christy Green (Jason), of Statesville, NC; Trena Harper (Alan), of Leonardtown, MD; and Sabrina Hawley (Ryan), of Colonial Heights, VA; and grandchildren that loved the attention showered upon them by Grandpa. Two sisters: Eileen Doering (Cliff) of Caro, MI; Mary Ann Mossner (Allen) of Frankenmuth, MI; one brother, Irwin Green (Kim) of Caro, MI, aunts, uncles, and numerous nieces and nephews that are also deep in the heart of Uncle Virgil.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday, March 20, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Slate Funeral Home, 132 E. Dalton Rd. King, NC.
