William Robert Scherer

SCHERER

King, NC – William Robert Scherer, 81, of Stokes County, passed away in his home on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

Bill was born on October 1, 1944, in St Louis, MO, to the late Otto Eugene Scherer and Lillian Molen Scherer. Bill sold parts for Mercedes-Benz for 62 years, he also worked for Stokes County for 10 years. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He loved spending his time fishing and hunting. In his youth, he spent his time racing in and around St. Louis, MO he was number 53. He was the local track champion for 5 years. No hobby gave him nearly as much joy as spending time with all his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother and sister, Donald Eugene Scherer and Beverly Scherer Cruse. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Patricia Scherer; children, daughter Sally Scherer Pinsley  and son-in-law Aaron Pinsley, Kelly Lang and son in law Jonathan Lang, Melanie Hadzopulos and son in law James Hadzopulos, and son Christopher Compton and daughter in law Kimberly Compton; Sister, Noraleen Hathaway; grandchildren, Juniper, Elliot, Drew, Tyler, Rylan, Hailey, Emily, Avery, Jackson, and Miles. Mother-in-law, Kathleen Farley, sister-in-law Mildred Farley, brother-in-law Brian Farley and wife Julie. As well as several nieces and nephews, family, and friends.

A service will be held on 2:00PM Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Slate Funeral Home.
