William Arthur “Bud” Hendrix,77, passed away peacefully at home on his farm in Tobaccoville, NC.
Bud was born on November 11, 1946, at home on his family farm to the late Harmon Kelly and Elsie Smith Hendrix. He worked on and stayed on his farm his entire life. He was a lifelong Primitive Baptist and member of Boyles Chapel Primitive Baptist Church. He was a beloved father, farmer, and Auctioneer. Bud has gone to his Heavenly home for a Hendrix family reunion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert S. Hendrix, and a sister, Nancy Ann Crews.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Gaynell H. Hendrix; children: William Kelly Hendrix (Jaysana), Michelle Williams (Glen Williams, and Wendy Hendrix Rierson (Chad); grandchildren, Alesia Hendrix, Kayla Livengood, Jacob William Rierson, Mackenzie Connelly, Austyn Rierson, Leah Rierson, and William Kelly Hendrix, Jr., great-grandchildren: Sterling Moore, Eli Livengood, and Harper Livengood, a niece, Robin Crews and his beloved dog Smokey.
Bud was the first and last of his kind and truly a man of men. He lived his life every day to the fullest, the man you wanted to be and the man you wanted to know. He loved just as hard as he worked and enjoyed his days on his family farm to the very last one that God gave him. Daddy loved hard and worked hard. He truly walked in faith every day and never feared the next one as he knew his faith would carry him through.
Among his many life achievements, he was particularly proud of when he successfully ran for public office in 1997, winning his party's nomination for the office of Sheriff of Forsyth County, NC. Daddy stood for what was right no matter the time, place, or cost. He fearlessly fought for and defended the rights and liberties of all people in his community and would never back down from a challenge. When he wasn’t buying, selling, trading, or Auctioneering, he enjoyed his days on his farm raising tobacco, tending to his cows, and raising babies! He lived to make a trade, and he loved his children with every bit of his heart, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He taught them to carry on his legacy of faith, truth, and family farming and to continue his work by always offering a hand to others in our community.
We will see you soon, Daddy. As you told us all, “I am just a little further in front of the line. I'm going to get there first and make us a good farm up in heaven, but we will all be there together again soon.”
A memorial service to honor Bud will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 5:00 PM at Boyles Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder Jeff Whitaker and Elder Rodney Marshall officiating. Visitation will follow the service.
